Interacting with children at SS Mota Singh

A visit was made at the SS Mota Singh school where the main agenda involved interacting with young children of age 7 years. The class 2 children filed into the large hall and sat down on the floor, keenly waiting for the two stranger ladies to begin talking.

After introductions the children were asked if they enjoy stories listening to them as well as making them. A previously prepared chart depicting an outline of a human body with labels of father and mother on right and left arm respectively and sibling 1 and 2 in right and left leg respectively, was shown to them. They were then asked if they were willing to make stories about themselves and things they like about themselves would be written in the torso area. The aim was to help children reflect on the primary social environment and simultaneously pay attention to the qualities of specific member in it as well as themselves in it. Also in the head area they were asked to write qualities they want in themselves or who they wish to be as they grow up. Not only did their responses reflect their day to day teachings at school but also their keen and perceptive individual observations This chart could be continuously monitored every year by each child and their growth and personality development would progress with self awareness and reflection.

At the end of the workshop not only was there positive feedback from the children , even the teachers and the principal were surprised and immensely gratified to learn about new and alternate sides of their students . it was a memorable and highly enjoyable experience that ended with success as well as high sense of achievement
