Shackled by homelessness, poverty, domestic violence and lack of awareness, one often freezes in condensed complacency and the will to work extinguishes. Enactus SRCC in its pursuit to reignite the desire to lead a better life in a group of such underprivileged women, currently sheltered at an IGSSS (Indo Global Social Service Society) facility, collaborated with SWASHRIT SOCIETY to conduct a counselling session for them under Project AAHAAR.
Project Aahaar endeavours to uplift the lives of underprivileged women by imparting cooking skills to them to make them self-reliant entrepreneurs in the culinary business.
In laying this foundation, Enactus Srcc was provided a strengthening hand by Ms. Sakshi, Consultant with Swashrit. Sparing time from her busy schedule, she counselled women and motivated them to work to the best of their capability. Listening to their predicaments, she stimulated the women to take adversities in their stride. An opportunity to confide their feelings to a professional psychologist heralded a noticeable improvement in the mental stability of each one of the women.
Enactus SRCC is highly grateful to Ms.Sakshi for lending a helping hand in the process to empower the indigent women and look forward to working again with Swashrit for economic and social betterment in the lives of people in need! |

Swashrit Society (a national N.G.O. which aims at providing holistic education to underprivileged children), in liaison with Johnson Controls Inc., conducted workshops as a part of the “Growing Up Right” programme in Bappanagar and Ranjit Nagar on physical, nutritional, educational, psychological development and energy conservation on 24 May 2012, 30 May 2012 and 6 June 2012 and 14 June 2012. In addition, mental health counseling camps were also set up, in association with Mindtraack-Centre for Health and Well-being, for the not-so-privileged children at the N.G.O. centers.

A number of cases were dealt with in these camps where the children were asked to discuss their concerns freely. The children shared problems faced by them, like bullying, pre-exam anxiety, peer pressure, physical changes (in adolescence), concentration in studies, pressure to perform well in academics, family problems (e.g.-economic status, pressure to take responsibility of the family etc.). In accordance to the predicaments faced by them, constructive counseling was provided to the kids, by the trainers of the Swashrit Society, in order to help them to deal with their problems more effectively.
The “Growing Up Right” workshops and mental health counseling camps served the purpose of empowering the children with enough information and problem solving skills with regards to the stress and problems confronted by them. Moreover, the aim of imparting emotional maturity upon the kids, so that there is a sense of control, sense of right and wrong and indulgence in well thought out actions, was fulfilled with the help of the counseling sessions successfully. |
