Career Counseling Camp
 
 
A three day long career counseling camp was held on 6th, 7th, and 8th June, 2014 at the Bhai Lakhi Shah Vanjara Hall in the Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib as a part of Career Guidance fair organised by the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee(DSMGC). The event sought to provide high quality guidance and counseling for students of the 9th, 10th and 12th standards. A stall was set up with a view to counsel and familiarise students with their individualised interests, abilities, and skills, provide information about the wide assortment of possibilities for undergraduate majors and future career options which are consistent with their own values, skills, interests, and abilities. Over the course of three days, a legion of students were counseled at varying stages in their career development process—from those who were unable to decide what career field they would like to enter and those having trouble deciding on a course and/or college to the ones who simply wanted to confirm a career choice that they have already made. Many students who’d had been unable to secure admission in prestigious courses and institutions due to academic or monetary reasons were provided guidance on skill-oriented courses and vocational studies. Besides counseling, presentations and interactive sessions were also held. Dr. Bhavna Barmi delivered a speech on the opening day touching upon issues that are crucial to process of making big decisions about life including one’s career. Further, the three counselors presented on the topic of career development, aptitude, and the importance of career counseling.
