Round Table conference on Issue related to Volunteering with NGOs

A round table conference was organised in IMI, Delhi on 20th Jan 2015 in which many Non-Profit organizations participated to debate & discuss over an extremely pertinent issue – Volunteering with NGOs. Swashrit participated the event with Swati Patwal & Sunishi Singh as its representatives.

The conference was honored to have Dr. Bakul Dholakia as the chief guest of the event who was accompanied by Director General, IMI & the faculty members of the institute. Students of IMI participated in the debate & discussion sessions organised in 3 groups where students discussed the issue with invited representatives of various NGOs like Jamghat, Naz Foundation, Akshay Pratishtha to name a few.

All the non-profit organizations laid prompt focus on the importance of volunteers in varying degrees in such organizations. Discussion on importance of committed volunteering was the major focus wherein the reasons of failure in commitment were discussed. As the discussion proceeded, importance of volunteers for various skilled tasks on NGOs was discussed, (for instance - volunteers could support NGO with their polished skills in the fields of personnel management, project management, marketing & resource management etc.). With the conclusion of the discussion, it was focused that volunteers are important for NGOs and their importance is increasing with the increase in dynamics of social sector. It was also focused that volunteers must approach any non-profit organization with the motive of committed support rather than mere contribution. The relation thus formed then could be further strengthened by establishing a match of interests from both the ends as only this way commitment can be assured. Thus as summarized, the major issues as were discussed among various representatives of NGOs, IMI faculty & IMI students were:

Why NGO need volunteers?
How to develop a pool of volunteers for NGOs?
What role HR people play in strengthening the bond between volunteers and NGOs?
How to engage volunteers in NGOs?
Role of NGOs to convert contributing volunteers to committed volunteers?
How B-school graduates could connect dots between social & private sector to develop more CSR profiles?
